Wake Up to Breakfast with Kellogg’s Corn Flakes

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet many of us, because we don’t have the time, regularly go without it. This is a NO NO!! I can’t emphasis enough the importance of eating a well balanced breakfast. If you want to get fat, be ugly and stupid skip breakfast! This is a pretty harsh statement but there is some truth to it! If you’re interested in losing weight, have breakfast! If you’re interested in doing better in school, have breakfast! It’s SO important that Kellogg’s has been campaigning worldwide on the importance of eating breakfast. Recently representatives of Kellogg’s were here in Dubai speaking about their ‘Wake Up to Breakfast’ campaign where they are promoting healthy eating habits in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. They want to improve eating habits in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and generate awareness across the Middle East for the importance that breakfast has on a person’s energy, performance and health, Kellogg’s Corn Flakes’ ‘Wake Up to Breakfast’ campaign is aimed at promoting the benefits cereal can offer as part of a healthy breakfast. The campaign focuses on two main areas; demonstrating the benefits that eating a nutrient dense food, such as cereal, can have on a person’s health while also aiming to eliminate the misconception that cereal is unhealthy, unfilling, and high in preservatives.
So Why eat breakfast and why choose Kellogg’s?
Benefits of Eating Breakfast
- Regulates weight control- people who eat breakfast tend to be slimmer than those who skip breakfast.
- Improves concentration and performance of school children
- Reduces diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease and stroke, and colon cancer (for high fiber breakfasts).
Eating breakfast is particularly important for active people who have high energy, vitamin and mineral requirements. In addition, eating breakfast can help improve physical performance.
Breakfast is also an excellent occasion to eat together with the family, and indeed children who eat with their parents in the morning have more nutritious breakfasts. Eating a nutritious breakfast develops good eating habits that will last a lifetime.
The Perfect Breakfast
Breakfast, as the word suggests, literally means ‘breaking the fast’. After going 10–12 hours overnight without food, your energy reserves are low and your body, and perhaps more importantly your brain, needs fuel. Studies show that people who eat breakfast are less likely to be overweight than people that don’t. Ideally you should be looking to consume around 25% of your daily calories from breakfast (for a man eating 2500 calories a day this would be around 625 calories, for a women eating 2000 calories, around 500 calories).
Like any other meal, a balanced breakfast should include foods from each of the food groups. It’s also a good time to get at least two servings of fruit. For instance, one small glass of fruit juice, one tbsp of raisins, seven strawberries or a sliced banana sprinkled over your cereal. If you can tick off two servings at breakfast, reaching your ‘5 a Day’ should be a doddle.
